Hayden Collins hails New Name for an Old Friend

Hayden and Sandra Collins Shorter University

Hayden and Sandra Collins were among the Shorter College alumni at this weekend’s reception to celebrate its accreditation to become Shorter University.

Hayden Collins attended classes at Shorter College’s Rome campus while completing his Master’s degree.  For Hayden and his family, his returning to the regimen of class schedules and assignments while working fulltime required planning and sacrifice, but the end result was worth it.  “The discipline of hard work and continuous self-improvement gives the individual a sense of building for the future.  Along with the recognition of the degree, this commitment and focus are keys to success.”

Returning to college also presented an opportunity to experience changes in teaching methods and students’ responses to advances in technology and evolving forms of communication media.  Students in Hayden’s classes and working on group assignments with him benefited from his wide-ranging experience of the world, as well as his perspectives on identifying goals, strategies, and problem-solving.

Hayden Collins congratulates Shorter University on its advancement.  “Shorter is changing with the times, meeting the expectations of the professional community, and moving forward.  As part of that, we now have Shorter University.  I look forward to their future success.”

Hayden Collins articulates leadership challenge at Republican Party meeting

Five candidates running for State Representative in Districts 12, 14, and 15 participated in the Saturday morning forum at the Republican Party headquarters in Cartersville.  The standing-room-only audience also heard presentations by the candidates for Bartow County school board, and state and federal Senate seats being decided in the upcoming election.

After opening remarks, each of the candidates responded to questions from the audience, which focused on zero-based budgeting and control of spending, schools and transportation, and the intent and interpretation of Constitutional issues.

Hayden Collins described the demands on leadership in combat situations and in running one’s own business, his experience in meeting those demands and confronting and successfully responding to such situations.

“Indeed, one of the biggest factors in the next Georgia General Assembly is going to be stress.  Tough decisions are going to have to be made, and you can’t back down from it.  I have made tough decisions in combat and in business, and I will make the tough decisions in the Georgia General Assembly.”
