Barbecue festival serves the community
The weekend started well with the annual Georgia Barbecue Classic in Cartersville. My family enjoyed the concert on Friday night in Sam Smith Park, and the barbecue cook-off events on Saturday.
We got a chance to meet Miss Cobb County’s Outstanding Teen, Tara Lynn Steele who will compete as Miss Cobb County in the upcoming Miss Georgia competition – but on Saturday it was her dad who was competing, in the barbecue cook-off. Congratulations to the winners!
The event served up some amazingly good food and a general spirit of fun among neighbors and friends, but it also serves a good cause – as a major fundraiser for the Good Neighbor Homeless Shelter in Cartersville. This organization is an outstanding member of our community, not only providing for the immediate needs of men and women in critical circumstances, but also helping them to create a better future as productive members of the community.
Thank you to the Good Neighbor Homeless Shelter – for all the planning and preparation that went into this weekend’s fantastic barbecue cook-off, and for their continuing care for our community and those in need.
